This entry covers the span of 2-full pages in the book...Starting with the strange limited edition CD "Music To Climb Stairs By." Only 50 of these home-burned, home-packaged CD's were made and all sold at the Sala Rossa show where Fembots (Toronto) and Parka 3 (now defunct, then of Montreal) shared the bill.
Katy MacFarlane, a local illustrator, oil and watercolour painter, and now cabinet-maker-in-training, provided the graphics for the CD cover and the ticket you see re-printed in the book.
On the 1-page spread that follows the CD/ticket images, you get the chance to see part of the story-board she created for a grant proposal we submitted for the song "You Suck." It was a cute little story in which Lederhosen Lucil gets an invitation to a surprise party. She enters the creepy building only to find that the surprise is on her! A group of rag-taggle, misfit puppets in love with her have lured her to this remote location to profess their adoration. What ensues is a puppet Lucil chase scene that ends when she pulls the plug on the lights and, we assume, escapes.
This was submitted to the largest music video granting board in Canada and when it was rejected I called up to find out why (we put weeks into making this package 100% "unrejectable"). The girl on the other end of the phone said something to the effect of "Oh yeah...I remember that one. It was the one with the puppets, right? It was just too wierd."
Note to self: If you want to get a video grant don't be too "wierd." Unless, of course, you apply to Bravo!Fact where they acknowledge and support the "wierd."
Viva la wierd! Viva wacky puppet videos!
