Origins of Frozenhosen
The first CD I had pressed was "Frozenhosen." The name was inspired by the pair of designer Frozenhosen I had made after realizing that performing in suede and leather was going to be a sweaty business. After I had finished designing and making the hosen I was trying to figure out what to do for the visual concept of the disk. My old friend Chris Jack from Kingston (who did the comic you see at the beginning of the book as well as the first Lucil cartoon) had been working on the drawing that ended up fitting perfectly with the frozen theme! So much of Lucil's world is based on chance, coincidence...fate!
When the CDs came in I was so excited! My first CD - a limited edition of 50 copies. I turned my sewing room into a little packaging factory for one. I hand cut the remainder of the bright blue corduroy used to make the hosen into little squares that fit the vinyl sleeve and garnished it with one feather per sleeve (from the same family of feathers used in the Frozenhosen hat!). Everyone that bought Frozenhosen literally got a piece of mein hosen! At one point I was considering printing a pattern on the square so if you were industrious enough you could cut and sew your own mini Frozenhosen!
This CD sold out much quicker than I had anticipated so I had to repress. I made 100 more copies at a duplication plant near Westport and it turned out to be a very religious couple who owned the company (mostly used for CDs of religious music and preachin') but they didn't manage to convert me and my mom when we drove out to pick up the disks!
