When I recorded my first cassette tape "Lederhosen Lucil...Let's Hose!" I realized that I definitely needed an image of some sort for the cover. After deliberating over a number of rather hideous clip art images of short, stout Germans in lederhosen swilling beer and looking spaced out, I decided to create my own image. Since I'm no visual artist in the sketching and painting sense, I asked my friend Joey (the accordion guy - a Toronto troubador of sorts!) if I could borrow his polaroid camera.
My friend Rachel and I brainstormed where to shoot the shot - outside a church that looked like a castle? In Trinity Bellwoods Park?
On my way home from work one day I passed by a church around Dundas and Grace and there was an intricate and life-sized nativity scene up and ready for the Christmas season. The livestock looked...well, perfect! Later that day I dressed up in my hosen and new wig (from Balloon King...best party store ever!) and we snuck out into the twighlight.
I remember it was freezing cold out so I had to whip my coat off for the shot and then immediately afterwards put it right back on. At one point I was posing beside a donkey's ass and a little girl and her dad walked by - I froze in a pose and the little girl pointed at me. I still wonder how he explained to his daughter who the blonde lady hanging out with the three wise men was.
