First Photo of Lederhosen Lucil: Borrowed Hosen and Ladder Posing!
Right now I'm being transported back to the very first time I performed as "Lederhosen Lucil" as I'm looking at the photograph taken in my apt. at the time (the ladder is there because I think we were putting up a fresh coat of lime green in the parlour in preparation for the house-warming cocktail party we were hosting) The photo was taken by one of my closest friends - Carolyn Langdon or Sarah Brodie. Neither of them remember who took the photo and I couldn't! I think I was 23 at the time.
As you can see, the first time I played I had short brown hair and a major attitude! I was ready to rock! I sported authentic lederhosen that this guy at work - Crunch Recording (Steven? Was that you?) - lent me. He, too, didn't have any German ancestry, but for some reason had a pair of lederhosen in his personal collection. They were waaay too big for me and proceeded to fall down throughout the night.
The hat, cow bell (authentic Bavarian styles!), and suspenders all came from my friend Suzanne's (whom I met at Crunch where I was working as a receptionist, bartender, craft services, and general slave) friend Tracy. It came up in conversation when I invited her to the party, that I was going to be performing a musical set that night as "Lederhosen Lucil." She was all - do you have a bell? And when she brought over the accessories that night they completed the outfit! I do recall ringing the bell when people were clapping and getting excited about the next song.
Aside: Tracy was also an art director and set decorator on films and I worked with her once on a kid's puppet show where I had to dress giant foam rocks with different kinds of lichen and moss on a tall ladder.
